It contains elements of both tennis and squash. It is considered one of the fastest growing sports in the world.
The padel court is much smaller than the tennis court. The grid separates the opponents’ squares. The padel court is enclosed by walls, most of which are made of glass. This makes padel matches a spectacular spectacle for the spectators. The paddle racket is made of composites and has no string. The balls for the game resemble those for tennis. Padel is a sport where there are no age limits. It is a team and doubles game, both for advanced athletes and amateurs, it can be a recreational activity for the whole family. Currently, about 25 million people in the world actively practice this sport. In Spain, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Italy, padel is the second most popular sport, the Portuguese Padel Federation claims that in their country, in 2023, the number of amateur padel players may be higher than those in football!
Poland has its National Team in padel, which takes part in local and international tournaments. Padel was one of the 28 disciplines of the European Games Krakow-Małopolska 2023 – the largest multidisciplinary sports event in Europe. The games were held at the Main Market Square in Krakow.
The development of this sports discipline in Poland is supervised by the Polish Padel Federation, which organizes promotional events supporting clubs. It also offers training programs and promotes padel among children and teenagers.
In Poland, padel is played by amateurs, players, children and adults. There are already over 3,000 players and this number is steadily growing. On weekend days, you can meet whole families on the courts. Many influencers, film and music stars as well as media people and athletes play padel, among them: Agnieszka Radwańska, Quebonafide, Jerzy Janowicz, Marta Domachowska, Tomasz Smokowski, Rafał Zawierucha, Grzegorz Kajdanowicz.
